Our story

Founded in North Durham, Fur-Get-Me-Not Therapy Animals CIC is a social enterprise dedicated to enhancing the well-being of vulnerable individuals. Our journey began with a simple belief: that the unconditional love and therapeutic presence of animals can heal, comfort, and connect. We are passionate about making these powerful interactions accessible to everyone, especially those in North Durham facing significant challenges.

Every day in our local care homes, there are quiet moments that tell a massive story. As a mental health nurse working directly within care facilities across County Durham, I have looked into the eyes of residents and have seen the profound weight of advanced dementia, the heavy fog of localized depression, and the deep, aching ache of social isolation.

I have also seen the magical, transformative spark that happens when a person connects with an animal. A non-judgmental paw to hold or a calm heartbeat to sit beside can unlock memories, soothe acute anxiety, and bring a beautiful sense of peace that medicine alone sometimes cannot reach.

Our approach

We pride ourselves on our unique approach: delivering vital animal-assisted therapy directly to local facilities. This innovative, mobile model completely eliminates the prohibitive financial, transport, and logistical hurdles that so often keep people isolated.

By traveling directly to care homes and schools, we ensure that neurodivergent children and elderly dementia patients can fully experience the pure joy, sensory comfort, and therapeutic advantages our animals provide.
